My 8 Blocks 45, 46 from Virtual Quilter

Interesting!

I like the second design! Very different.

Autumn Daze 83, 84 from Virtual Quilter

The fabrics I used in this project file are based on reproduction fabrics, which of course were fabrics based on fabrics used in historical quilts. The pieced blocks are ones I had sketched on graph paper long before I got Electric Quilt 5. The applique blocks include some based on EQ Block Library designs, with a few modifications.

I like the first design, but the second design is my favourite today.

Second design is interesting too.

Very interesting design.

Different, but not as interesting as the first design for the day.

Hexie Logs 41, 42, 43, 44, 45 from Virtual Quilter

Love varying the placement of colours in any quilt blocks, but the results in Log Cabin style pieced hexagons is very effective.

I also always like adding plain blocks amongst pieced blocks, and adding some applique or quilting motifs is a bonus.

Love the design above!

In the design above I like the centre patches! Unusual effect.

I like the colour placement in the centre hexagon.

More Log Cabin designs mid week, next week.

EQ and Me OP 29, 30 from Virtual Quilter

Interesting design, but disappointing colours.

Blocks in this project file are all from the Electric Quilt Library.

Another interesting design, and the colours are more interesting than the first. Amazing what adding more green leaves have done to the colour scheme, though still a bit washed out.

Cabin Fever Isolation Area 61, 62, 63, 64, 65 from Virtual Quilter

Love the first design this week.

There are four colourways of the TNT Log Cabin block in this project file, and there are over 500 quilt designs. I suspect that there are some repeats, but I have not been able to find any.

Interesting!

I like the one above.

I can see five spaces which could be filled with some interesting quilting, or some applique could be added before the quilting.

That is all for this weeks Log Cabin retreat, but there will be more Log Cabin designs mid week, next week.

Sealink Starr OP 13, 14 from Virtual Quilter

One block design, but many blocks depending on where the fabrics are placed.

Even the quilting is the same block but without the fabric.

I love these designs.

Blocks of Green 7, 8 from Virtual Quilter

I am fascinated at how these blocks have come together.

The second design is rather boring by comparison. Note that all blocks are basic pieced 9 patch blocks.

Interesting.

Can anyone guess what song the name for this project file came from?

I like the second design very much!

TNT Logs + 106, 107, 108, 109, 110 from Virtual Quilter

This week’s selection of designs includes three very similar designs with minor changes, and two also with minor changes.

The dark circle in the centre has become a light space.

The dark centre is back, but the inner corners have changed.

The one above is interesting.

Four blocks have changed colour in the last.

That is all for this week, and last, but more Log Cabin designs mid week, next week, if I remember what day it is. Easy to tell we are retirees, where every day is Sunday!

Log Heap 61, 62, 63, 64, 65 from Virtual Quilter

This Mid Week Retreat post is a bit late. I don’t often pre-program blog post by more than an hour or two, but I was going to be absent from home for a week, spending time with a group of quilters, and for that time, time meant nothing to us. In preparation I set up not just the five days of retreat but an extra few days to cover the rest of the month of May. Well, not quite the rest of the month. When I reached the last day of the month I did a post without any ...

Hearts for Felicity 15, 16 from Virtual Quilter

Interesting!

I started this project file to challenge myself to design something outside my comfort zone. I think I moved the comfort zone because I love some of the designs I found by playing with some weird looking blocks along with some pretty colours.

Pretty and interesting.

… but the second design is my favourite.

I love the tangled corners of the borders!

Aunt Flo’s Quilt 41, 42 from Virtual Quilter

So pretty and dainty. I think I may be repeating past comments about the designs in this project file.

More of the same … dainty and pretty, and in my late Mum’s favourite colours.

Hexie Logs 36, 37, 38, 39, 40 from Virtual Quilter

The Log Cabin block usually starts with a square, but can also start with a rectangle, a triangle, and a hexagon. Starting with an octagon might be a step too far, but is possible!

Different and very unusual!

The appliques could be done on plain blocks, or pieced blocks using low contrast fabrics for each round.

The one above is my favourite so far …

… but the last one finishes first in the favourite ratings from me!

The gallery is a bit crowded today!

More Log Cabin designs mid week, next week.

Stars on Ramsay Terrace 19, 20 from Virtual Quilter

Very neat and tidy design.

In case you are wondering, these block designs, and yesterday’s designs too, are 4 patch blocks, drafted on a 16×16 grid.

The second design is maybe a little too busy.

Stars on Tatiara Terrace 13, 14 from Virtual Quilter

Mostly simple piecing, reusing many of the same shapes for every block. These sorts of designs would be made easier for beginners by making less blocks in bigger sizes, which means some play time for me to see what some 3×3 and 5×5 designs would look like.

My favourite of these two is the first one.

Not my favourite mix of colours by a long way, but I love this project file, and all the designs in it.

I think my favourite of these two designs is the first one, but i may change my mind.
